Outline plans to build new homes on the site of New Brighton’s former Old Tavern Club could be approved next week.
Wirral Council’s planning committee is due to decide on a proposed mews-style residential project for the Magazine Lane plot.
Applicant P Horner Property Ltd is looking to develop 13 two-bedroom and three one-bedroom apartments, along with parking for 10 cars and landscaped gardens on the site of the former nightclub and premises.
The access, layout, landscaping and scale of the development is to be determined in a future planning application, however a two-and-a-half storey building fronting the site with a smaller building to the rear is highlighted in a council report to be considered by the committee.
A petition of objection containing 53 signatures has been submitted to the council over the plans, together with 30 individual objections.
Concerns are said to be over insufficient parking, safety issues with vehicle access, overdevelopment, loss of privacy and light, fears of noise and disturbance and possible street clutter and smells from additional bins.
The site for the proposed development is close to a bakery and a small shopping centre on Seabank Road, with the surrounding area said to be predominantly residential in nature.
The Wirral Council document adds: “This outline application proposes the redevelopment of a site used most recently for a non-conforming, harmful use and the proposed residential development will have less impact upon the amenities of the neighbouring properties and the overall character and appearance of the area.”
The planning committee meeting will take place on 17 August.
