Six-screen cinema just the start for Kirkby town centre

A national cinema operator is just the first big name heading to Kirkby according to the developer behind the town centre’s regeneration.

St. Modwen has announced a deal with Reel Cinemas which will see a six-screen multiplex form part of a new leisure scheme replacing the former library on Newton Gardens.

The proposed development will also include three new leisure units and St. Modwen’s projects director Paul Batho says the regeneration specialist is “in talks with several national operators” interested in taking space there.

Paul adds: “Exchanging with Reel Cinemas marks a significant step forward in our development plans for Kirkby town centre.

“We know that the people of Kirkby want more leisure amenities in the town and a new cinema will make a big difference in transforming the town.”

Chris Morgan-Giles, property director at Reel Cinemas, says: “We are delighted to complete on the deal to bring a six-screen Reel Cinema to Kirkby.

“We look forward to bringing the people of Kirkby the quality cinema experience we know they have wanted for a number of years.”

A planning application is due to be submitted later this year for the leisure scheme once occupiers for the new leisure units have been identified, with an opening planned for 2018.
