Rococo plans café in Liverpool’s commercial district

Popular Liverpool city centre coffee shop Rococo could be branching out into the commercial district under new plans.

The owners of the Lord Street establishment are looking to transform a ground floor office within a Grade II*-listed building into a café.

The former recruitment agency office at the Tower Building on Water Street, which is currently being used as a site office for refurbishment works to 93 apartments across the first to seventh floors of the site, is the subject of a change of use application to Liverpool City Council.

Rococo Coffee House Ltd, which has been running its Lord Street food and drink destination since 2008, will aim to “enhance the character” of the space and create full and part-time job opportunities.

According to a planning document to be considered by the local authority: “The application for planning permission and listed building consent is for internal alteration proposals that involve the creation of food preparation and café accommodation through the removal of existing non-original partitioning and adaptation to the softwood staircase to give access to a mezzanine seating area and the installation of internal partitions and doors to create necessary lobbying to the foyer.”
